Wanje

Wanje’s journey begins in the Giriama community in Kenya; Descendent from a family of rich musical heritage and surrounded by music throughout his upbringing. Despite feeling pressure to follow in the same direction, Wanje rebelled against the path set before him to find his own way.

It wasn’t until moving to the UK in 2004 that he reconnected with music; Reigniting his passion and establishing his own direction. A singer, songwriter, and percussionist, Emperor Wanje now performs as part of Solomento and Yaksha Sounds, sharing a conscious historical, political, and spiritual message through the languages of Giriama, Kiswahili, and English. As Wanje sums it up, ‘Every day is a school day’, and he never stops learning.
